03/07/2009 - Boston, MA (Sportsbook Betting Lines) - Mark Recchi scored two goals to lead the Boston Bruins to a 5-3 victory over the Chicago Blackhawks at TD Banknorth Garden.
David Krejci and Phil Kessel also scored for the Bruins, who ended their six- game homestand with a 3-2-1 mark and will now travel to New York for a Sunday matinee contest against the Rangers. Tim Thomas made 32 saves in the win.
Jonathan Toews, Kris Versteeg and Patrick Kane scored for Chicago, which fell to 2-3-1 after a four-game win streak. Cristobal Huet allowed four goals on 38 shots in the losing effort. The Blackhawks open a three-game homestand on Sunday against the Avalanche.
The Bruins opened the scoring midway through the first period courtesy of a mistake by Chicago defenseman Brian Campbell. Following a dump-in, Campbell appeared to purposely avoid the forecheck of Recchi along the rear boards. This negated the chance for the Blackhawks to clear the zone, and the disc ended up along the left half-wall on the stick of Patrice Bergeron. Bergeron passed to Chuck Kobasew below the left circle, and Kobasew fed Recchi for a successful turnaround wrister at 10:19.
With 4:49 remaining in the second stanza, the visitors knotted the contest on Toews' power-play marker. Kane held control along the outer rim of the right circle near the half-wall and passed to Toews, who was stationed along the goal line near the right post. Toews then attempted a stuffer, and the disc caromed off the skate of Boston's Aaron Ward and into the back of the cage.
However, the Bruins responded quickly with two goals in a 35-second span, the first of which was Krejci's stuffer at the left post only 30 seconds after the Blackhawks tied it up.
Then at the 16:16 mark, Boston moved ahead 3-1 on Recchi's second tally of the game. Dennis Wideman corralled the puck in the high slot and fired a wrister toward the net before Recchi redirected the disc past Huet from the left side of the crease.
Kessel's 27th goal of the season 1:35 into the final stanza gave the hosts a three-goal edge. Following a turnover at the blue line, Marc Savard eventually gained control and feathered a perfect pass through the slot and onto the stick of Kessel, who lit the lamp with a wrister from below the right circle.
Midway through the third, Versteeg's 17th tally of 2008-09 -- assisted by Andrew Ladd and Matt Walker -- brought Chicago within 4-2.
When Andrew Ference was whistled for interference with 5:33 to play in regulation, the Blackhawks cashed in on the 5-on-4 advantage. Kane held control atop the left circle and released a blazing slap shot that flew past Thomas with the help of a screen in front. Kane's 21st goal was scored at 14:34.
Thomas and the Bruins defense corps, however, clamped down and P.J. Axelsson's empty-net goal inside the final minute capped the scoring.

LaDainian Tomlinson Favorite to be 2007 NFL MVP
With the first NFL preseason game less than two weeks away, it is time to start thinking about football once again at MySportsbook.com. Reigning NFL MVP LaDainian Tomlinson is currently the 5-1 co-favorite to win the award again alongside Super Bowl MVP Peyton Manning.
This shouldn’t be a surprise to anyone after his all out assault on the record books last season. For those suffering from amnesia or were under a rock last football season, all L.T. did last season was set the NFL record for rushing touchdowns (28), total touchdowns (31) and total points scored (186) to go along with his 1815 rushing yards and 508 receiving yards. At 6-1, Tom Brady is next in line which isn’t surprising considering all of the firepower the Pats added over the off-season. With the addition of Randy Moss, Donte Stallworth and Wes Welker; it would be quite difficult for Brady’s numbers not to improve from last years 3529 yards and 24 touchdowns. There appears to be some decent value in Drew Bees at 10-1 considering he probably would have won the award last year if it wasn’t for L.T.’s record breaking season.
There is no reason to think the Saints will come back to earth this season and playing in a weak NFC, they should have as good a shot as any to represent the NFC in the Super Bowl. At 15-1, Donovan McNabb could also be worth a look. Remember, many felt he was the MVP of the first half of the season before going down with a season ending injury. Reportedly, he is in great shape and well ahead of schedule to return to form. Also, he could have some added motivation to put up big numbers this season with the Eagles using their first pick in the draft on McNabb’s future successor Kevin Kolb.
